P.O.M.O.C. was established in 1980 by a group of second generation Polish immigrants concerned about the poor living conditions of some of their fellow residents, especially the newly arrived immigrant and refugee families who had no where to turn for help.

The name P.O.M.O.C. is an acronym describing its ethnic origin, more importantly P.O.M.O.C. means “HELP” in Polish, a word easily identifiable by the large Eastern European immigrant population residing in New York City.
